PAH Telehealth CentreMetro South Health Telehealth hits 10,000 consultations!

A rheumatology patient from Esk was the 10,000th patient seen via telehealth within the Metro South Health and Hospital Service.

This milestone was reached at the Princess Alexandra Telehealth Centre on the 2nd of March 2017.

The PA Telehealth Centre opened in July 2012, with the University of Queensland’s Centre for Online Health at the helm. Metro South’s telehealth activity has quickly and steadily grown throughout the collaboration with the COH.

The PA Telehealth Centre is a specially designed telehealth space, with fully equipped clinical consultation rooms, meeting spaces, and specially trained staff to help facilitate telehealth outreach.

The aim of the COH team is to assist with integrating telehealth into routine clinical practice. We provide evidence-based research expertise and clinical experience using new technologies to deliver health services. Telehealth has been shown to save patients, clinicians and other health workers the time, money, and stress of travelling to Brisbane from rural and remote locations for appointments.

A broad range of clinical specialities use the services available through the PA Telehealth Centre, including dermatology, diabetes/endocrine, gamma knife (oncology), geriatrics, neurology and orthopaedics, plus many others.
